Born Global

Metrics as Archetypes Team Summer Project

Born Global is a charity organization that aims to promote circular and zero-waste innovations using biomimicry. With two biomass power plant sites in Maine, USA they have designed unique programs and operations to support tech startups and their research in sustainability.

My team specifically was called “Metrics as Archetypes” and we focused on two things: 1) current metric systems used to measure sustainability and 2) the use of Jungian archetypes in branding and marketing. As a result, our work highlighted ways to ensure Born Global’s success in sustainability – both quantitatively and qualitatively – and to understand the unconscious essence of the foundation. Puncture Resistant Textiles

Master's Thesis 2020

While there are many testing standards for textile resistance to punctures, many of them are either macro-scale (e.g. knife) or meso-scale (e.g. needle). There is no standard in measuring textile resistance to objects in the micro-scale (e.g. mosquito proboscis).

As a graduate researcher at BU, I helped improve a potential testing standard for micro-puncture resistance by military uniform fabrics. The primary difference this testing method had compared to other similar tests is the absence of live mosquitos. To simulate a live mosquito proboscis, I designed and fabricated a physical assembly that made the test 60% faster, more efficient, and more accurate.

Solar Distillation System

Class Project 2019

To improve the water crisis in the MENA region, our team designed a completely passive distillation system that relies on solar rays and an array of evacuated tubes. In 7 hours of daylight, our upscaled system can produce up to 21L of potable water. For more information, click on the PDF document below.
